Sony PCG-717 VAIO Notebook Desktop Theme Sound Patch

This patch resolves the issue where where the VAIO Desktop Theme sound is lost when the computer is recovered.

Important Notes

* Before installing this update, check the software version of your computer to determine whether or not this utility will work. To do this, follow the steps below:
1. Click Start, point to Settings and click Control Panel.
2. At the "Control Panel" window, double-click the System icon.
3. In the lower right of the "System Properties" window are four lines displaying details of the computer system. The first line reads Sony Corporation. The second line displays a version number of the software loaded on your computer. It will begin with VAIO and end in a version number. Please make note of the version number. This patch upgrades versions G2.0.2(C or E) and G2.1.1(C or E). It does not upgrade other versions.
4. If you have version G2.0.2(C or E) and G2.1.1(C or E), please continue with this update.
* To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
* It is highly recommended to print out these instructions and the "NT Drivers install.txt" file that will appear as a reference during the installation process.

Download and Installation Instructions

1. Download the THEMESND.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the THEMESND.EXE file to begin the installation.
3. A self-extractor message box will open. Click on the Extract button to extract the files to the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory.
4. Click on OK to close the "unzipped successfully" message box.
5. Click on Close in the Self-Extractor message box to close it.
6. Open the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP directory.
7. For software version G2.0.2, double-click on file THEME202.BAT. For software version G2.1.1, double-click on file THEME211.BAT. (If you have another version, this upgrade is not necessary.)
8. The upgrade will install. Click OK to close Registry Editor message box.
9. Close the open MS-DOS window. Windows sounds should be enabled.
10. You may wish to save THEMESND.EXE and THEMESND.TXT to a floppy to reinstall these sounds if you ever restore your software to its original configuration from the Recovery CD. Click on THEMESND.EXE on the floppy to begin the install process, then follow from step 4. above.

The installation of the VAIO® Desktop Theme Sound Patch is complete.
