Philips TV Firmware Upgrade Guide using a USB memory device
Getting Started
- Please read the entire instructions once before performing the upgrade.
- The USB drive you use for the upgrade needs to meet the following criteria:
- USB drive size should be 128 MB or larger.
- USB drive should be clean formatted to FAT32 before you start the process.
- Drives with U3 software are not supported. The U3 uninstall tool can be found here u3.sandisk.com/launchpadremoval.htm
- Most modern computers (Operating Systems) usually have Zip File extraction tools built-in but in case yours does not, you can download and install 7-Zip or any other extraction tool to extract the Firmware Upgrade Package. 7-Zip can be found here: 7-zip.org/download.html
- There is a rare possibility that the firmware upgrade fails; if this happens you need to perform a recovery process which is outlined later in this document.
Firmware Upgrade Process
- Copy the *.upg file (PHL-0CEX_xxx_x.upg) from the Firmware Upgrade package to the root of the USB Drive.
- While your TV is on, insert the USB drive in the USB port of your TV.
- Using the Philips TV remote, navigate to "Home/Menu -> Setup -> Software -> Software Update -> USB".
- If your TV successfully detects the firmware upgrade file on your USB drive, it should list it at this stage.
- Select the file and press OK on the TV remote.
- From this point onwards please follow the On-Screen instructions on the TV to successfully complete the firmware upgrade. Do not interrupt the process or turn off your TV while the firmware is upgrading.
- If the firmware upgrade fails for some reason, please perform the "Recovery Process".
Recovery Process (Perform ONLY if Firmware Upgrade fails)
- Clean format your USB drive to FAT32.
- Copy the "RecoverySoft.upg" file from the Firmware Upgrade Package to the root of your USB Drive. DO NOT rename the file.
- While your TV is on, insert the USB drive in the USB port of your TV.
- If your TV successfully detects the Recovery Upgrade file on your USB drive, it should list it at this stage or start the recovery process on its own.
- Select OK on the TV remote, follow On-Screen instructions and finish the recovery process. Do not interrupt the process or turn off your TV while the firmware is upgrading.
- When the Recovery Process is complete, remove the USB drive and turn off your TV.
- Unplug the TV from the AC outlet it is plugged in to and wait for 10-15 seconds.
- Plug the TV back to the AC outlet, wait 10-15 seconds and turn it back on.
