Publisher's description of Sony PCG-705 VAIO Notebook BIOS Update Utility

This utility will update the system BIOS for compatibility with the Microsoft® Windows® 98 operating system and resolves the issue where the notebook does not resume from the Hibernate or Suspend Mode.

Download and Installation Instructions

1. Download the BIOSR216_98.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double click the BIOSR216_98.EXE file. The file will extract to the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\BIOS_Version_R2.16 directory.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Next.
5. Place an empty formatted floppy disk into the floppy A: drive.
6. Go to the C:\Windows\Temp\Bios_Version_R2.16 directory.
7. Double click the INSTALL.BAT file.
8. System files and BIOS R2.16 files will be copied to the floppy disk.
9. When prompted, leave the floppy disk in the floppy A: drive, close all windows and restart the computer.
10. The install program will automatically update the BIOS and shut the computer off.
11. Remove the floppy disk and start the computer again.

12. NOTE: If a checksum error occurs, please press F2 to enter BIOS setup. In the BIOS setup screen, RIGHT-ARROW over to EXIT, highlight EXIT (Save Changes) and press ENTER twice to restart the computer. Label the floppy disk "BIOS R2.16" and save it. It can be used to restore this BIOS should the need arise.

After the computer restarts, the upgrade to the BIOS Version 2.16 is complete.
NOTE: To confirm installation of the new BIOS, do the following:

1. Click Start, point to Tool Center, and click Sony Notebook Setup.
2. Click the "About This Computer" tab. The BIOS Version should indicate R0216S1.
